Your Cardiac Health HUB for Northwest Oklahoma
February 19, 2025
The leading cause of death in Oklahoma is cardiovascular disease.* Preventing cardiovascular events before they occur is important. But, if you do have heart disease, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center has specially trained physicians and nursing staff to treat a broad range of emergency and non-emergency heart conditions.
Lior Shamai, DO, an interventional cardiologist, discusses some of the additions to the cardiac care offered at St. Mary’s.
Leadless pacemaker
This does not use the traditional leads (wires) that connect a conventional pacemaker to the heart. It is a small, implantable device that goes directly into the heart to regulate rhythm.
Biventricular implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs)
ICDs combine the functions of a pacemaker and a defibrillator to treat heart failure and life-threatening arrhythmias. These devices play a crucial role in managing heart failure by coordinating the heart's contractions and improving its efficiency and reducing symptoms.
Pulmonary Embolism (PE) Response Team Protocol
This initiative is designed to provide rapid, comprehensive treatment for both PEs and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). By assembling a specialized team, we are working to ensure that patients receive timely and effective interventions, with a goal of significantly improving outcomes.
Shockwave Lithotripsy
This procedure treats calcified coronary and peripheral artery disease by using sound waves to break up calcified blockages, enabling more effective treatment and better long-term results for patients.
“These advancements reflect our unwavering dedication to advancing cardiovascular care and improving the lives of our patients,” says Dr. Shamai. “We look forward to continuing to innovate and working towards providing the highest quality care possible.”
Take care of your heart now…to help secure your tomorrow.
